S-CAPEPOD Evacuation Sheet

The Bariatric S-CAPEPOD helps you with the safe evacuation of larger-sized individuals during an emergency, up to 300 KG / 661 lbs.

Strong. Powerful.

In case of an emergency evacuation, it should be your number one priority to get bedridden patients out of the building. Especially when patients have a bariatric size, they cannot do this alone. Care workers and staff will need to help. Without an evacuation device, this is almost impossible.

The Bariatric S-CAPEPOD is permanently placed underneath the mattress. The patient neither sees it, nor feels it. Due to its intuitive design, the patient will be ready for evacuation in about 60 seconds.

An extra abdominal belt

Since you are dealing with a larger individual, the patient needs to be firmly fixated onto the mattress. This prevents the patient from moving or slipping down during an vertical evacuation via staircases.

For that reason, extra abdominal belts were added to firmly fixate the patient onto the mattress. It’s crucial to fixate as tightly as possible. Therefore it is recommended to perform this step with two people. This also provides extra comfort for the patient.

Fire Retardant Properties

A fire-retardant technique has been applied to the evacuation sheet. And this isn't just a coating that disappears after frequent washing. On the contrary, this safety source is inherently incorporated in the yarn. So it also meets the M1 fire standard.

Anti-bacterial tech from Switzerland

The fabric of the S-CAPEPLUS is equipped with Sanitized® TH27-24. This Swiss technology provides an anti-bacteriological effect and protects you, staff members & patients against the dangers of bacteria.

Moisture permeability

The sturdy structure of the fabric and two overlapping body flaps allow to retain extra body heat for the person on the mat. You can also wrap the victim into a thermal blanket to prevent hypothermia.

Huge in performance. Huge in details.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who's using this bariatric evacuation sheet?

The evacuation sheet is designed to evacuate larger-sized individuals that are also suffering from some sort of mobility-impairment. The Bariatric S-CAPEPOD is mainly being used by healthcare facilities, such as:

    • Hospitals
    • Senior living homes
    • Hospice centra
    • Obesity clinics

  • What's Sanitized TH24-27?

Sanitized is an anti-bacteriological technology from Switzerland that can be applied to textiles to protect surfaces against bacteria. This hygiene function is also applied to the evacuation sheet. This means you can also protect your clients against the life-threatening spread of all kinds of known bacteria. An evacuation sheet that is not equipped with a similar technology can cause life-threatening situations.

  • How do you clean the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD?

The aid is easy to clean with a wet cloth and disinfectant or in the washing machine. Do not wash in combination with other textiles. Since the product contains hook and loop fasteners, it is recommended to place the S-CAPEPOD in a laundry bag. This way you always keep the product in an optimal condition and you prevent that the hook and loop fasteners become entangled with each other.

  • How often should I clean or wash the S-CAPEPOD?

How often you wash depends on the hygiene policy in your healthcare institution. As a manufacturer, we recommend washing the evacuation sheets if they are soiled.

  • How often should I train with this evacuation sheet?

It is recommended that you practice with the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD 1-2 times a year. This does not have to be formal training with a training institute. In fact, we try to encourage you to practice internally with colleagues. If you start training now, you can always consult the Digital Evacuation School. It is filled with step-by-step guidelines, tutorials & more.

If you cannot need help with your training, one of our colleagues or one of Tetcon’s distributors can visit you for an evacuation / product training.

  • Ga je eerst met de voeten of het hoofd van het bed?

You can do both. There are pulling straps at the head and foot end of the S-CAPEPOD Evacuation Sheet. We notice a strong preference among users to use the pulling strap at the foot end. This is often easier, faster and less difficult. That’s why we also trying it this way. If a person on the mattress suffers from neck or back injuries, you can choose to use the pulling strap at the head end.

  • Is it painful?

No, it’s not. When moving a person from bed to the floor with the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD, you might think that the movement from the bed to the floor is “painful.” However, the opposite is true. To ensure that this transfer goes smoothly, it is advised that you lower the mattress only if the person’s buttocks are over the edge of the bedframe. This gives a natural “wave motion” of the body and allows you to lower the mattress in a controlled manner. If you are unable to make that “wave movement”, there is nothing wrong. The bed mattress and pillow provide enough support for your neck and back. It is also advisable to put the adjustable beds in its lowest position. Taking stairs is also no problem. Are you dealing with a person with head or neck injuries? See the explanation below on how to do this.

  • Is the material fire resisant?

No, the material is not fire resistant, but fire retardant. It meets the M1 fire standard.
