Evacuation Mattress S-CAPEPLUS has a new storage bag. In January, 2016, we launched the first version of the Wall Cover storage bag. Throughout the years, the storage bag for the evacuation mattress became almost a standard item for most of the users. It is the ultimate way to store your evacuation device to walls. It is suitable for the Basic Model and the Premium Model. After three years, it was time to change things. In this post – we are highlighting three reasons why the Wall Cover is changed.
1. The recycle process of PVC is difficult
In 2016 we decided to use PVC. It was rigid and easy to manufacture. In 2018 we learned that there were difficulties when recycling PVC. A major problem in the recycling of polyvinyl chloride is the high chlorine content in PVC and high levels of hazardous additives added to the polymer to achieve the desired material quality. Chlorine is pretty toxic for organisms living in water and soil. For that reason – we started searching for materials that are easier to recycle. The main point was to find a sustainable alternative.
2. It was not fire retardant
It was impossible (read: extremely expensive) to make the PVC fire retardant. Users all over the world were asking if there was a fire retardant edition of the Wall Cover. When we had to tell them ‘no’, we always had to refer to the carrying bag of the S-CAPEPLUS, however, it’s not easy to mount this item to the wall. So that was another reason to say goodbye to the PVC material and to go for a fire-retardant alternative. The new material fulfils the requirements of the building class B2 according to DIN 4102-1 (May 1998). The determined test results show that the material also fulfils the requirements according to DIN 4102-1 (May 1998) of the building class B1. 3. The aesthetic appeal did not fulfil the end users’ wants
Some users did not like the aesthetic style of the PVC. It is crucial for design and products because our first interaction with almost anything is based on how it looks. Users thought that the PVC Wall Cover was too ‘shiny’ or too ‘flashy’. For that reason, we searched for an alternative that would fulfil the aesthetic requirement as well.
