Evacuation Mat
S-CAPEPLUS®

Leave no one behind during an emergency. This evacuation aid can be used by anyone, it's fast-in-use and doesn't include a servicing contract.

Prepare for an emergency evacuation.

When an emergency happens and the people in your charge are confined to a wheelchair or are suffering from reduced mobility, it can be stressful and dangerous if your facility doesn’t have a plan to get them down a few flights of stairs and out of the building. Elevators are out of use.

That’s why we created the S-CAPEPLUS – a comfortable and easy-to-use evacuation mattress that can help you safely remove an immobile individual from a building in case of fire or other event.

Can be used by anyone

All your colleagues must be able to operate an evacuation aid without having to train intensively. In fact, the use should be so simple that a passerby can be a lifesaving rescuer simply by observing the visible instructions.

Or that even children can use the evacuation mattress. Like Guus (9 years old) and Tibbe (12 years old) in this picture. Or watch them use the evacuation mattress in this video. It’s all about pure simplicity.

Service contract? ‘Nah.’

Many evacuation devices come standard with a long-term and expensive service contract. That time is over. Due to its simple design, the S-CAPEPLUS does not require a maintenance contract. In fact, you can check the evacuation mattress for damages after use by yourself. You don’t need an annual service contract for that.

Fire Retardant Properties

A fire-retardant technique has been applied to the evacuation mattress. And this isn't just a coating that disappears after frequent washing. On the contrary, this safety source is inherently incorporated in the yarn. So it also meets the M1 fire standard.

Anti-Bacterial Protection From Switzerland

The fabric of the S-CAPEPLUS is equipped with Sanitized® TH27-24. This Swiss technology provides an anti-bacteriological effect and protects you, staff members and patients against the dangers of bacteria.

Retain Extra Body Heat

The sturdy structure of the fabric and two overlapping body flaps allows to retain extra body heat for the victim. You can also wrap the victim into a thermal blanket to prevent hypothermia.

Created with superb precision

01

Long pulling straps ensure that you can stand straight when manoeuvring the evacuation mattress. This allows you to train in an ergonomic-friendly way.

02

A positioning strap (now in yellow color) is placed around the hull. This ensures that the victim lies firmly on the evacuation mattress and prevents that the victim from sliding down during a vertical evacuation.

03

The S-CAPEPLUS cover can easily be removed with the zipper on the head end, which allows you to clean the S-CAPEPLUS in the washing machine.

Designed to protect vulnerable people

The last thing you want is to leave someone behind in the event of an emergency. The group that needs help with during an evacuation is probably larger than you initially expect:

Wheelchair users

Injured people

Bedridden people

People with reduced mobility

Frequently Asked Questions

  • For whom would you install an evacuation mattress?

An evacuation mat can be purchased for mobile and less mobile persons. Someone who is mobile today may face some kind of immobility tomorrow. This could be due to an injury, for example. Furthermore, people who are facing permanent or temporary mobility issues need help during an emergency evacuation. You can install evacuation mats for wheelchair users, bedridden people, people with a walker, crutches or a walking stick or visitors that become immobile as a result of the potential emergency.

  • Is it painful on the evacuation mat?

You are not the first one to ask this. This is a perception that many users have who have never used the evacuation mattress before. However, the opposite is true. Many users also call it ‘a massage’ when you are brought down the stairs. In general, people experience the evacuation via the stairs as comfortable.

Here you can read a complete review of the S-CAPEPLUS by Josephine Rees from Able Amsterdam.

  • How do you maneuver through narrow corridors and tight turns?

The tutorial below shows you how to turn 90/180 degrees with the evacuation mat on one square meter! This way of turning ensures that you can turn quickly and sharply through small passages and narrow hallways. Watch the video so you can learn this yourself. You can use this technique for all S-CAPEPLUS evacuation mattresses from Tetcon.

  • With how many people do you have to operate the evacuation mattress?

This depends on how experienced you are. If you are an experienced user, you can operate the S-CAPEPLUS on your own.

When you are going to use the S-CAPEPLUS for the first time during a demo or training, it is recommended that you operate the S-CAPEPLUS with 2 people: 1 person at the foot end and 1 person at the head end.

Make sure the victim’s weight is relatively equal to your own weight. This way you always keep control and ensures you get comfortable with the product’s use.

Your own safety always is priority number. Always follow the user instructions. If you feel uncomfortable or don’t think you can handle it, leave it to someone else.

  • Should I sign up for a maintenance contract?

No. We do not work with maintenance contracts. We believe this is an unnecessary expense and we do not want to burden you with that. Once you have used the evacuation mattress, you may check it visually yourself for any damage.

  • Who manufactures this evacuation mat?

The S-CAPEPLUS® evacuation mattresses is designed and manufactured by Tetcon. Tetcon is located in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

  • Is it faster to move to a safe compartment with a bed?

Yes, this could be faster, but beds can be a huge obstacle in the hallways. The beds can block the hallway for emergency services and for further steps if you need to prepare for a full-scale evacuation. Also, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to move the bed over a fire host that lays through the hallway. You are also not prepared to evacuate via the stairs. In other words, evacuating with beds can create dangerous situations.

  • Is preparing for a horizontal evacuation sufficient?

The perception that horizontal evacuation is likely to be sufficient may lead to a lack of focus in risk assessments on vertical evacuation. This can create gaps in the preparation for large-scale assisted evacuations (e.g. by the fire service) and in the provision of training and evacuation aids to descend the stairs.

  • Can you also use the evacuation mat for evacuating bedridden people?

People who are bedridden can also be evacuated by means of an evacuation mattress. This would then go like this:

    1. The patient is placed on the bed in a sideways position.
    2. The evacuation mattress is placed in the back of the client.
    3. The patient is turned back onto her back, so that he / she lies on the surface of the evacuation mattress.
    4. Position the patient in the center of the S-CAPEPLUS
    5. The patient can now be wrapped by means of the positioning strap and the body flaps
    6. Place the bed in the lowest position
    7. You can now use the pulling straps to transfer the patient from bed to floor as you would do with an S-CAPEPOD evacuation sheet (always make sure to do this with 2 people!).
