In case of an emergency evacuation, it should be your number one priority to get bedridden patients out of the building. They cannot do this alone. Care workers and staff will need to help. Without an evacuation device, this is almost impossible. At the cornerstone of the S-CAPEPOD evacuation sheet stand three core values, which are of crucial importance during an emergency: speed, simplicity and comfort.
A unique packing method helps you to act quickly. You wrap the patient on its mattress by means of three body flaps. As a result, the client lies in a protected cocoon. This doesn’t only gives a safe feeling, it also ensures that the patient remains firmly on the mattress.
A fire-retardant technique has been applied to the evacuation sheet. And this is not just a simple fire retardant coating that disappears after frequent washing. On the contrary, this safety source is inherently build inside the yarn. So it meets the M1 fire standard.
The complete evacuation method is also successfully tested in the EN597-1&2 brand test.
The S-CAPEPOD has been processed with Sanitized TH27-24. This Swiss technology provides an anti-bacterial effect and offers optimal protection against many well-known hospital bacteria. Evacuation sheets without an anti-bac effect can cause life-threatening situations.
If body fluids were to leak along the mattress, you want to prevent that they remain on the Evacuation Sheet. This can become a source of bacteria. Therefore, the fabric has a moisture-permeable property.

The S-CAPEPOD evacuation sheet is suitable for these mattress sizes:

Bariatric Mattresses are not suitable for this model. You will need to use the Bariatric S-CAPEPOD for this.
The material is fire retardant and meets the M1 fire standard.
The aid is easy to clean with a wipe and a disinfectant or you can place it in the washing machine.
Do not wash in combination with other textiles. Since the product contains hook and loop fasteners, it is recommended to place the S-CAPEPOD in a laundry bag.This way you always keep the product in optimal condition and prevent that the hook and loop fasteners becomes entangled with each other.
How often you wash depends on the hygiene policy in your care facility. As a manufacturer, we recommend washing the evacuation sheets if they are soiled.
You can do it with 1 or 2 people. If you are properly trained and have used the S-CAPEPOD several times, you can do this independently, also on the stairs. If you don’t feel comfortable using the S-CAPEPOD, always have a second person available to assist.
It is recommended that you practice with the S-CAPEPOD 1-2 times a year. This doesn’t have to be formal training with a training institute. In fact, we try to encourage you to practice internally with colleagues.

You can do both. There are pulling straps at the head and foot end of the S-CAPEPOD Evacuation Sheet. We notice a strong preference among users to use the pulling strap at the foot end. This is often easier, faster and less difficult. That’s why we also trying it this way. If a person on the mattress suffers from neck or back injuries, you can choose to use the pulling strap at the head end.
No absolutely not. When moving a person from bed to the floor with the S-CAPEPOD, you might think that the movement from bed to floor is “painful.” However, the opposite is true. For this transfer to go smoothly, it is advised that you lower the mattress only if the person’s buttocks are over the edge of the bedframe. This gives a natural “wave motion” of the body and allows you to lower the mattress in a controlled manner. If you are unable to make that “wave movement”, there is nothing wrong. The bed mattress and pillow provide enough support for your neck and back. It is also advisable to put the adjustable beds in its lowest position. Taking stairs is also no problem. If the person on the mattress suffers from back or neck injuries, you can also choose to use the pulling straps at the head end and go with the head off the bed first. See the picture below.

The S-CAPEPOD cannot be used when the bed mattress is permanently attached to the bed frame. If this is the case, you cannot place the evacuation sheet underneath the mattress, so please keep this in mind. You can always consult Tetcon’s customer service to check whether your alternating mattress is compatible with the S-CAPEPOD evacuation sheet.
This shouldn’t be possible. The pulling straps at both the head and foot end are packed in so-called pockets that you can close with hook and loop fasteners. This comes standard on every S-CAPEPOD. This prevents pulling straps from hanging loose and getting stuck in or between an adjustable bed.
To install the evacuation sheet under the mattress, we want to ensure that you do this in a ergonomic-friendly way. So that’s why you don’t have to remove the mattress from the bed to install the S-CAPEPOD. This video shows you how to do this in the most suitable way:
Many care facilities don’t have a plan to evacuate bedridden patient. Rolling beds out is often not an option. You often cannot get the beds through the doors, because the door frames aren’t wide enough. If they are wide enough, it can cause blockades in the corridors of the safe compartment. The idea that horizontal evacuation is likely to be sufficient may lead to a lack of focus in risk assessments on a vertical evacuation. This can create gaps in the preparation for large-scale assisted evacuations (e.g. when the fire service demands a complete evacuation) and in providing training and evacuation aids to descend the stairs. That is why more and more safety managers are choosing a tool such as the S-CAPEPOD evacuation sheets.
