Win time during a medical evacuation

When time is critical, every second counts. When patients suffer from extreme lung or heart failure, you will have to act immediately to increase the patient’s chances of survival. A transfer via the stairs can then be an obstacle and cause a lot of time loss. You can also use the S-CAPEPLUS Inflatable Model in these scenarios.

Reduce physical strain

Several studies have shown that back pain is a serious health issue for paramedics and first responders. Frequent lifting and carrying of patients results into high cumulative loads on the backs. These facts indicate that patient transport is the major cause for this problem. This ergonomic solution is the answer to that problem.

Improve comfort for patients

You use air to inflate the S-CAPEPLUS. Trauma immobilization on a spine board or a vacuum mat can be painful for patients. The S-CAPEPLUS provides a lot more comfort and prevents secondary injuries (e.g. pressure ulcers) due to trauma immobilization.

Comes in a carrying bag

This helps you to carry the S-CAPEPLUS with you in case of an emergency.

Designed in The Netherlands

The entire feet section and bottom side are equipped with the world's strongest fiber, Dyneema®. The hidden power of Dyneema® is mind-blowing. It’s 15 times stronger than steel ensuring durability and strength.

Easy and fast to clean

The S-CAPEPLUS can be cleaned with a disinfection spray and wipe. Always allow it to dry after manual cleaning to prevent odours. You can also place it in the washing machine. Always check the official guideline for cleaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you inflate this evacuation mattress?

The S-CAPEPLUS – Inflatable Model is inflated by air. A double-sided hand pump comes standard with every evacuation mattress. Double-sided means that when you inflate the evacuation mattress, there is air supply in both directions.

  • Is the evacuation mattress suitable for spiral staircases?

Yes, you can use this evacuation mattress on steep spiral stairs. It is important that you adjust the length of the pulling straps at head and/or feet end in order to provide sufficient resistance and thus prevent possible flipping.

  • How do you lift the evacuation mat?

On the longitudinal sides of the evacuation mattress are handles that you can use to lift the patient and transfer it to the stretcher. Make sure the pulling straps at the foot and head end are stowed away to avoid tripping over them. Always provide sufficient assistance to stimulate ergonomic working.

  • Can you place the evacuation mattress in a vertical position?

Yes you can. You can use the handles on the longitudinal sides to place the evacuation mat in a vertical position. Make sure you have plenty of hands available to provide assistance.

  • Does the evacuation mattress fit most of the standard ambulance cots?

Ja, the S-CAPEPLUS Inflatable fits most of the standard ambulance cots. It’s important to double check yourself whether the evacuation mat suits your cot too.  In the photo below you can see the evacuation mattress on a Stryker cot. Always fasten the evacuation mattress on the cot with the cot’s straps and buckles.

  • Can you also use the evacuation mattress when it's not inflated with air?

No, only use the evacuation mattress when it’s filled with air. If you don’t inflate the mattress, you can create dangerous situations for yourself and especially for the victim on the mattress. So always follow the user instructions.

  • How do I know that the mattress is filled with air sufficiently?

There’s a pressure relief valve at the foot end of the evacuation mattress. After inflating the mattress, you will hear the pressure relief valve. You can continue to inflate the mattress until you hear the pressure relief valve, which is a sizzling-sound.
